A leading condom manufacturer in Switzerland has created extra-small condoms for boys as young as 12 years old. After government research showed that 12 to 14-year-olds did not use sufficient protection when having sex, the extra small condoms were produced. Called the Hotshot condom, they are 45mm in diameter compared to the standard 52mm diameter of a regular condom. The manufacturer said that the UK would be a top priority if they expanded abroad as it has the highest teen pregnancy rate in Europe. Hilary Pannack of Straight Talking Peer Education, a teen pregnancy charity, said that they know young people are having sex and this is one way to protect them.
Lamprecht AG, the condom manufacturer said, England will be a "top priority" in their marketing abroad. Because England has the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Europe.
"Currently we only produce condom Hotshot in Switzerland. But England will be a very attractive market because the level of under-age pregnancy is very high. "Company spokeswoman said Nysse Norballe.
